The Company
Veterans
of 14 Edinburgh Festivals, Red Shift's GET CARTER was a landmark
in 2006. In 2009 they returned with an intense micro-theatre
event, THE FALL OF MAN. This explicit drama charting the breakdown
of an adulterous relationship, played in a single bed surrounded
by a small intimate audience, sold out and won new fans for a
company that has presented groundbreaking shows over 27 years.
Numerous 4 star reviews included: "Red Shift are a terrific
company
another provocative piece
a tribute to the
kind of fleeting passions that make life worth living" -
Scotsman "A branding iron of sex and guilt" - Metro.
INVISIBLE
SHOW II
Two years
later Red Shift are back with an entirely new theatre form, by
turns bleak, funny, heart-warming, drenched in humanity, played
outdoors by actors mingling with the crowd and accessed by an
audience wearing wireless headphones. Created by Red Shift founder
Jonathan Holloway, and underscored with Jon McLeod's haunting
electronic music, Invisible Show II is the sequel to the production
audiences loved in 2010. Everyday life is elevated to the status
of high drama, supported by rich words, compassion and wry humour,
reassuring us that we are all pretty bad at this thing called
'life'. The actors perform while moving among the crowd. They
don't attract attention to themselves, but the audience is wearing
wireless headphones and can hear them with crystal clarity while
being lifted onto another plane by the undulating soundscape,.
A tired father wrestles with his errant son, longing for reconciliation.
A six hour old relationship plunges from ecstasy to bewildered
heartache. A mother reveals the secret of a recent termination.
A thrilling, secret fling turns dark. A sick woman quietly puts
her affairs in order. Two real life scenarios are aired daily,
having been obtained by interviewing yesterday's audience.
